Assistance League of Portland
As part of the National Day of Service in early 2009, NEW Leadership Oregon Alumnae and Board Members partnered with the Assistance League of Portland to provide Assault Survivor Kits to OHSU and Portland Adventist Medical Center's emergency rooms. In a matter of a few weeks, NEW Leadership Oregon was able to organize 25 complete survivor kits that included a full set of clean clothes, flip flops and toiletries to help women who have been sexually assaulted to leave the hospital with dignity. The Assistance League and the Center for Women, Politics & Policy are working on a strengthened partnership in 2010 that will allow the Assistance League to provide these kits to 4 additional hospitals in the Portland metropolitan area. Details on the partnership and the 2010 service project are still being finalized.
